Golf Course Closed Sunday, Monday & Tuesday January 20, 21 & 22, 2019 With the low temperatures dipping into the mid twenties the next two nights, the maintenance staff will be covering the greens Sunday. This precaution is to prevent the soil temperature from dropping to a dangerous level that could kill the grass and create poor playing conditions. The forecast shows wind speeds to be almost 20 mph on Sunday adding to the already strenuous job of covering the greens which normally takes about four hours. We apologize for this inconvenience and look forward to seeing everyone when we open the golf course on Wednesday January 23rd. Black snakes may have a bad rap, but these reptiles help us out more than you think! Rodents make up most of their diet and they have also been known to prey on venomous snakes such as copperheads. They occasionally wander into bird houses for an easy snack, but this can be avoided by using snake guards and cutting down any overhanging limbs. They may look intimidating, but black snakes play a key role in our ecosystems! This one was found by our Audubon Ambassador Savannah Schell. Verticutting, or vertical mowing, removes thatch buildup in the lawn so turf can breathe easy, better absorb nutrients, and soak in much-needed moisture. Cateechee Course Maintenance is hard at work making sure the course is in it's best playable condition.
